Presentation
The study programme aims to provide a multidisciplinary education in the field of foreign languages and cultures. The objective is to train professionals capable of effectively integrating into various sectors where knowledge of multiple foreign languages and cultures is essential.
The structure of the degree programme requires students to choose one of the two available curricula from the first year: the professionalising "Languages for Business" curriculum or the methodological "Linguistic-Philological-Literary" curriculum, which allows for continuation into the second cycle (Master’s Degree in European and American Literatures and Master’s Degree in Theoretical, Applied, and Modern Linguistics).
The "Languages for Business" curriculum ensures the acquisition of the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) in three foreign languages, in addition to providing a foundational competence in general linguistics, Italian literature and computer science. It aims to train professionals capable of effectively integrating into work environments that require proficiency in foreign languages and knowledge of their cultural contexts. These abilities are also complemented with basic knowledge in the legal, economic, and sociological fields, which are useful for coordinating interlinguistic and intercultural relations. In the second year, students can choose a sub-path that includes the study of the literatures of two foreign languages, with the aim of facilitating access to the master’s degree and continuing their studies.
The methodological "Linguistic-Philological-Literary" curriculum, in addition to providing a foundational competence in general linguistics, Italian literature, and the philologies of the chosen languages, has the specific educational objective of acquiring the four language skills in two foreign languages, an in-depth knowledge of the corresponding literatures, as well as the theoretical and methodological tools necessary to begin critical investigation in various fields of philological, literary and linguistic studies. The abilities acquired in this curriculum, based on the knowledge of multiple foreign languages and cultures, enable students to work as translators and intercultural communicators in public and private cultural institutions.
Students have access to various resources for language learning including lectures by professors, exercises with Language Collaborators and Experts, as well as the services offered by the University's Language Learning Centre. These services include self-learning tools such as equipped classrooms, a rich media library with audio, video and CD materials, and a video library with films in various foreing language.
The access to the Bachelor's Degree in Languages involves a non-selective test aimed at assessing minimum requirements, which is carried out through the TOLC-SU test provided by CISIA. The test consists of multiple-choice questions covering the following subjects: General Culture and Logic; Italian language proficiency (grammatical analysis, logical analysis, sentence structure, text comprehension and lexical understanding).
